What are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are very thin, tooth-colored shells made of ceramic material that are custom-made and fitted to the front of the teeth. Known to give almost immediate smile transformations, dental veneers are best for, but not limited to those who suffer from the following dental issues.
- Uneven or undersized teeth
- Discolored or stained teeth
- Spaces or gaps between teeth
- Cracked, chipped, or broken teeth
- Crooked teeth
If you find that any of the above issues are affecting you on a daily basis, dental veneers might be right for you. Contact American Dental Care of New Jersey in Whitehouse Station so we can discuss your options today.
Porcelain Veneers and Composite Resin Veneers
Veneers are made from either porcelain or composite resin materials, with each offering different benefits and procedures. So before you decide which option is best for you, here is a little bit about each, including its benefits and the dental procedure involved.
Porcelain veneers are strong, long-lasting, have a natural-looking surface, do not stain easily, and require very little enamel to be removed (versus a crown or cap) prior to placement. The dentist needs to remove a little enamel to ensure there is room for the veneer and to also make it look as natural as possible. After the enamel removal, your dentist will take impressions of the teeth that are getting veneers and then send those impressions to a dental lab. This could take several days, so in the meantime, you may be given temporary veneers. Once the permanent veneers come in, they are placed onto the teeth, fitted for accuracy, cleaned, and bonded.
Composite resin veneers are slightly different from porcelain, in that they are made from a tooth-colored filling material and do not cost as much. After the teeth are prepped, your dentist will carefully reshape, then sculpt and bond the composite material to your teeth using a shade that most closely resembles the rest of your teeth. Then a special light is used to harden and bond the material.
While there are some obvious differences between the two, both materials will need to be properly maintained with routine dental cleanings, as patients that need dental fillings or dental extractions cannot have veneers placed. The only way American Dental Care of New Jersey can determine candidacy for cosmetic dental veneers, is if you schedule an appointment and initial consultation with us.
In addition to cosmetic veneers, we also offer a wide range of other dental services such as dental implants, dentures, root canal treatments, and emergency dental care for those in Lebanon, NJ and beyond. Your smile transformation is only one phone call away.
